GOAT (2026)

In the pantheon of kids sports film, I think Steph Curry does a good job at producing this film (the sheer star talent alone are all basketball people who probably didn’t need much convincing due to his involvement) and I think be does a great job at his role as the giraffe.

I think Aaron Buchsbaum and Teddy Riley did an ok job the actual story, where they shine is the creativeness for the culture and how the animals coexist. It’s really reminiscent of Zootopia but how they differentiate from that franchise and create their own greatness is that they capture the love and loyalty a whole zip code has for their sports team.

The voice acting is tremendous when you put into account that a good portion of the cast are basketball players (not the main cast but a lot) and I tip my hat to director Tyree Dillihay for that, he spreads the dialogue enough so that Steph Curry isn’t burdened with exposition or heavy character, he’s just a cool giraffe. With the focus of screen time being on Will and Jett, Caleb McLaughlin & Gabriel Union kill it. I haven’t seen any of Dillihays prior work, but seeing his resume you can tell he cares about animation as a medium and it shows here.

GOAT is a beautiful movie to simply gaze upon as well. The color schemes and shadow usage are great! I think the animation when everyone starts “baa-ing” was a little too out of left field for me, but the animators did a great job at having the characters emote in conversation and on the court. The score is great, Kris Bowers def helps there and his music that translates to emotion worked well in the Wild Robot as well. Aesthetically and cinematically this movie works a lot.

I think the pacing is a bit fast but this movie is aimed for kids with lower attention spans, so I can’t really knock it for that. My kids loved this film and that’s who this movie is for. This movie is funny and enjoyable, definitely can see this ending the year as a top movie in animation.
